Terms of Use
Arete is licensed to you under Apple's Standard End User License Agreement (EULA). These terms add details about Arete Pro, the free trial and safe use of the app. If they conflict with the EULA, the EULA applies.
1. Using Arete
Arete is a personal workout tracker. You may use it for your own, non-commercial training. You may not copy, modify, reverse engineer or redistribute the app, except where the law allows it.
2. Not medical advice
Arete is not a medical device and does not give medical, health or training advice. Scores, ranks and Fitness Level are estimates calculated from the numbers you enter. They are meant for motivation and tracking, not to diagnose, treat or prevent any condition.
- Talk to a doctor before starting a new exercise program, especially if you have a medical condition, an injury, or are pregnant.
- Train within your limits, use proper technique and equipment, and stop if you feel pain, dizziness or discomfort.
- You are responsible for how you train. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any injury or harm resulting from exercise.
3. Arete Pro
Logging workouts, routines and history are free. Arete Pro unlocks the Fitness Level card and ranks, Analytics, and rank-up animations. Arete Pro is offered as:
- Monthly and Yearly subscriptions. Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase. Subscriptions renew automatically at the price shown unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the end of the period.
- Lifetime. A one-time purchase that does not renew. Buying Lifetime does not cancel an existing subscription. Cancel that separately so it doesn't renew.
- 30-day free trial. A free, one-time offer. The 30 days start with your first workout after you start the trial, not when you tap the button. It costs nothing and does not turn into a paid subscription. When the trial ends, Arete Pro stays unlocked until you finish your next workout, and then it locks unless you choose a plan.
Prices are shown in the app in your local currency and may vary by country. Prices may change. Changes to a subscription price are communicated by Apple as required.
4. Managing and cancelling
You can manage or cancel a subscription at any time in your iPhone's Settings › [your name] › Subscriptions, or from Arete's paywall using Manage Subscription. Cancelling stops future renewals. You keep Pro until the end of the period you've already paid for.
5. Refunds
All purchases are processed by Apple. Refunds are handled by Apple under its policies and can be requested at reportaproblem.apple.com. We cannot issue refunds directly.
6. Restoring purchases
If you reinstall Arete or use a new iPhone signed into the same Apple Account, open the paywall or Settings and tap Restore Purchases.
7. Your data
Your workout data belongs to you and is stored on your device and in your own iCloud account, as described in our Privacy Policy. Arete includes backup tools, but you are responsible for keeping backups of anything important to you. We are not responsible for data lost through deletion, device loss, iCloud issues or other causes outside our control.
8. Changes to the app
We work to keep improving Arete. Features, scoring and the look of the app may change over time. We may also stop offering the app, but we will not take away a Lifetime purchase you have already made for as long as the app remains available to you through the App Store.
9. Disclaimer and limitation of liability
Arete is provided “as is”. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we make no warranties beyond those in Apple's EULA, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential damages arising from your use of the app. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under the consumer protection laws of your country.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The current version is always on this page with its effective date. If you keep using Arete after an update, you accept the updated terms.
